About Department:


Department of Electronics and Communication was established in the year 1999 for imparting a state-of the- art education, training and research in the field of Electronics and Communication and allied areas. The department offers a Bachelor's program with an intake of 180 students per year and Master's programmes in VLSI System Design and Embedded Systems with an intake of 36 students each. The department has faculty strength of 38 and student strength of around 700.


The Department has state-of the- art laboratories in the areas of Embedded systems, DSP, VLSI system design. Department is prestigious with the latest Cadence, Xilinx, National Instruments & Texas Instruments tools to cater various specializations. Further the Department conducts Add on courses beyond curriculum for pre-final and final year UG students in collaboration with SYNOPSYS, XILINX, NI, CADENCE and TI under their university Programs.

Department research strength spans over diverse disciplines like Centre for VLSI Design, Centre for Embedded systems design, Texas Instruments Lab, National Instruments and Randy Pausch Robotics Engineering Center with quality faculty members Prof.Sanjay Dubey, Mr.Sanjeeva Reddy, Mr.I.B.K.Raju, Mr.M.C.Chinnaiah and Prof.K.Prabhakar Rao as incharges for the respective fields. It also encourages its researchers to participate in a wide range of international research collaborations. BVRIT's extensive network creates unique opportunities for conducting and supporting research, particularly in multi-disciplinary areas.


Research & Development / Funded Projects: 


Center for Cognitive Sciences A centre for Cognitive Science Research is established in the department of ECE to promote this research activity in this emerging new area. Department of Science & Technology , Govt of India has sanctioned  Rs.45 lacs for a period of 3 years for a project on “Assistive Technology devices for Quadriplegic & ALS patients”. Dr. I. A. Pasha is the principal investigator.  


AICTE-RPS Funded Project: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi has sanctioned Rs.16.05 lakhs for a period of 2 years for a project on Radar signal processing submitted by Dr. I. A. Pasha under Research Promotion Scheme (RPS).  


DST Funded Woman’s Research Project Department of Science & Technology , Govt of India has sanctioned  Rs.23 lakhs for a period of 3 years for a project on “Reconfigurable real time signal capturing using FPGA in VLSI Technology” submitted by Mrs.Jayshree Das.

The placement record has always been very impressive. Students are placed in MNCs and Industries involving VLSI, Embedded Systems, Wireless communications, Signal processing, Microelectronics, Robotics, Computer software, hardware integration and other advanced technologies.


Placement in leading core companies like Synopsys, Xilinx,  Agilent, Alcatel, Hellosoft, Medha Servo drives, AMD, Soctronics and ELICO systems & Software companies like TCS, Infosys, Mahindra Satyam, Sonata, CTS, IBM, Delloitte, Thoughtworks, NTT Data, Virtuso etc.

The Program Educational Objectives of Electronics and communication Engineering:
1. To prepare students to excel in the graduate program; to succeed in industry / technical profession and also enable to purse higher studies and continued life-long learning.

2. To provide students with solid foundation in mathematics, Sciences and basic engineering breadth they cover multi-disciplinary subjects enabling them to comprehend, analyze engineering problems and develop solutions.

3. To prepare students with strong engineering knowledge and technical competence to use techniques, skills and modern engineering tools that allow them to work effectively as electronics and communication engineer.

ELECTRONICS DEVICES AND CIRCUITS LABORATORY
ECE
This lab is well equipped with all basic requirements of electronic components. The main idea is to focus on the basic working of Diodes, Transistors, oscillators and their applications in Rectifiers, Amplifiers and Oscillators. As a part of  I  year curriculum the above experiments are conducted in the laboratory.
INTEGRATED CIRCUITS LABORATORY
ECE
This lab is well equipped with all the Integrated chips. The main idea is to focus on the applications of various ICs like Opamps, 555timers... etc in different fields. As a part of III year I semester curriculum the above experiments are conducted in the laboratory. Students are also guided in doing the Mini Projects.
ELECTRONICS  CIRCUIT ANALYSIS  LABORATORY
ECE
This lab is a part of II Year I semester. It deals both the Hardware and Software part. This lab focuses on the working of power amplifiers, Voltage Regulators and their applications and they are simulated using PSPICE Software. The various power amplifiers include CLASS A, B, C and Push pull configurations. The lab is well equipped with the required Trainer Kits and provided with the licensed users of PSPICE Software
MICRO WAVES AND OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONS
ECE
This lab is well equipped with all the microwave devices. This lab deals with the micro measurements of the signals at micro frequency range. It involves measurement of frequency, wave length, VSWR, Impedance and scattering parameters of various micro wave devices like Circulator, Direction Coupler, and Magic --Tee. Using Optical Transmitter and Receiver Kits various characteristics of LED, LASER Diode and Optical fibres are studied. As a part of IV Year I semester curriculum the above experiments are conducted.
MICRO PROCESSORS AND MICRO CONTROLLERS LAB
ECE
This lab is well equipped with all the microprocessors and micro controllers. It consists of  performing Intel Assembly  language on processors of  8086,8085,8051(TRAINER KITS) and also by  using Turbo Assembler, interfacing modules like stepper Motor, traffic lights, elevators, 7 segment display etc. Final year students have performed much application for there Project works on micro controllers (8051).
DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING LABORATORY
ECE
This lab is a part of IV Year I semester. It deals with the  designing all types of  filters using MATHLAB and also using processors 0f Texas instruments like TMS320VC5416  AND TMS320C6713  and by  using ASM AND C LANGUAGE students are performing projects works on codecs ,voice recognisation and applications on A/D and D/A conversions using this processor
ANALOG AND DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS LAB
ECE
This lab is a part of II Year II semester and III Year I semester. It deals with the designing all types of Modulation and Demodulation techniques of transmitter and receiver, analyzing channel characteristics on which our present day communications depend. The Lab is well equipped with all the required Trainer Kits on which students can perform their experiments and test the different techniques available presently. The student projects and research work is supported in this Lab.
PULSE AND DIGITAL CIRCUITS LAB
ECE
This lab is a part of II Year I semester. It deals with Pulse shaping, Multivibrators, Oscillators, Switching Circuits...etc. The Lab is well equipped with the required Trainer Kits over which students perform experiments. Students are also guided in performing the MINI projects.
E-CAD LAB
ECE
This lab is  a part of III Year II semester and it is provided with ACTIVE HDL  to implement digital ICs using VHDL language. Apart from ACTIVE HDL the lab ii equipped with Xilinx ISE, CPLD and FPGA Kits used for implementation of VHDL code. This lab is equipped with 30 systems with licensed users of ACTIVE HDL Simulator 4.2.

TEXAS INSTRUMENTS LAB

The TI Lab was inaugurated in the Dept. of ECE by Dr.Biswadeep Mitra, President and Managing Director of TI India, and Dr.C.P.Ravikumar, Director, University Relations on the 7th June 2011. The objective of TI lab is to provide exposure and hands-on experience in the application of TI technologies by implementing innovative industry oriented projects by the students. An award ceremony for the winners of the TI India Analog Design Contest-2010 was conducted in BVRIT on 7th June’2011. BVRIT was awarded with best second runner-up award for its project 'Quadriplegic wheel chair communicator' in TI ADC-2010. TI donated Stellaris-ARM Cortex M3, ASLKv2010, Beagle boards for the benefit of TI lab students & faculty. Subsequently training programs are being conducted for B.Tech ECE students to work on TI hardware.

 The Department of ECE has established Embedded Systems lab with the support of National Instruments using Lab view in 2011. This lab focuses on virtual instruments & Lab VIEW Using these facilities helps students of ECE to take up academic and research oriented projects using NI tools.

Dr.P.V.Manivannan, IIITM, Chennai and Dr.Madhavakrishna, IIIT Hyd, were guest of honor for inaugural ceremony. A course work on “Mobile Robotics” has been started for RPRC. The objective is to promote the research activity, create enthusiasm and awareness about the Robotics course among the student community of BVRIT. The online course started from 20th January, 2012.  The course work is conducted by BVRIT ECE alumini Mr.K.NagaSrikanth from ATR lab Japan and Mr. Karthik Puvada from Vanderbilt University, USA. 

CENTER FOR VLSI DESIGN

 CVD

 The center for VLSI design (CVD) was established in 2009 to enhance the practical skills of the students and to be trained towards the present needs of the VLSI industry. The center focuses specially on analog mixed signal and SOC VLSI design. The CVD is equipped with Cadence tools and Xilinx tools.

A course on DIGITAL DESIGN on FPGA course is conducted by Dr.Vijay Krishnan Narayanan Prof, CSE Dept, Pennsylvania State University, USA. The lectures are conducted through web using Adobe Connect, followed by assignments, Projects & Evaluation by Dr.Kevin Irick, Research Associate, PSU. He visited B.V.R.I.T, ECE department during June-July 2012 to guide the projects for UG and PG students on FPGA’s.

CENTER FOR COGNITIVE SCIENCE

The Cognitive Science Research Initiative is one of the latest ventures taken up by BVRIT. The lab is being headed by Dr I.A.Pasha who is also the head of the Electronics and Communication Engineering department. The lab focuses on research on intelligence and behavior, especially focusing on how information is represented, processed, and transformed (in faculties such as perception, language, memory, reasoning, and emotion) within nervous systems (human or other animal) and machines (e.g. computers). The lab boasts of the prestigious DST fund which primarily aims at building brain-computer interfaces for people with no muscle control. In addition to this major project, students are encouraged to come up with their own ideas and extensive support is given to expand their ideas, carry out their own research work and conduct experiments. BVRIT proudly claims to be one of the very few colleges in India to have established a Cognitive Science lab which is a virginal ground, especially in India

The Digilent Analog Discovery™ design kit is developed in conjunction with Analog Devices Inc., and Xilinx is the first in a new line of all-in-one analog design kits that will enable engineering students to quickly and easily experiment with advanced technologies and build and test real-world, functional analog design circuits anytime, anywhere - right on their PCs. It is an hardware development platform with components to design and implement analog circuits as a supplement to their core engineering curriculum.
